Introduction
Stem cells are considered as the building blocks of all multicellular organisms. This is
because the cells are responsible for replenishing of specialized progeny during development,
injury, and homeostasis. This is achieved through a regulated balance between differentiation
and self-renewal. In the past, much has been said concerning these cells, however, true basic
criteria such as their renewal capacity, identity, and general properties are still a subject for
debate. The increasing amount of literature, particularly in this topic, imposes a challenge to the
science community to stay on top of the current knowledge of this always evolving topic in
genetics (Azizi, Moghaddam & Skutella, 2015). Research that involved the use of stem cells
from human beings and animals is currently an extremely active exercise in biomedical inquiry.
This is because it contributes to new knowledge and information concerning the pathways of cell
differentiation and the development of an organism in both normal and abnormal cells. It opens
vistas for therapies in new cell transplant for various diseases affecting human beings. This paper
will offer general observations and specific examples to help in understanding the general state
of the present research in human stem cell, its promises, and problems that need a solution for
the research to yield and generate clinical benefit.
Stem cells and their derivatives
In the body of a grown human being, the cells, tissues, and organs that are differentiated
all arise from a minute group of cells that are found within the embryo at its blastocysts stage
during development. At the time of, in vivo embryonic development, cells that constitute the
ICM, inner cell mass, differentiate and divide in relation to each other and with the whole being
to which they are part of. In the end, these cells produce specially integrated tissues and organs
of the body. However, when the embryo grows in a laboratory setting using IVF, the mass cells

in the inner cell could be put in isolation or removed. In the preferable conditions, some of these
cells proliferate in vitro into becoming embryonic stem cells.
The embryonic stem cells have the ability to form into various varying types of
