Introduction
The War, which occurred in 1812, is a painful reflection of American history. This armed
conflict occurred between the British Empire and America. The British hampered the American
trade because they feared this could be harmful with their war with France. Also, the British
desired to keep their control of the Midwest expanse by setting up an Indian state. About 10,000
United States troops fought with the British regulars. Canada being a British protectorate back
then, they allied with the British during this war. With the hope of proving their independence
ones and for all, the Americans opposed the British Empire for snatching their sailors to work on
British ships. The significance of this study is that it will help to remember the important turning
point in the history of the United States. The war of 1812 would be rightly called the American
war of independence because the war finally led to the British removing all their troops from the
soil of the United States. Additionally, the removal of the troops represented the British
acknowledgement of the victory and sovereignty of the US.

The 1812 War represents an important chapter in the history of USA and Canada. The
war involving the United States and Great Britain started from June 1812 to February 1815, and
Canada became a battleground. During this period, Americans nearly annexed the Upper Canada
and all the territory west of it. In 1793, Britain was forced to war that lasted for two decades with
revolutionary France. The war advanced globally in nature as French Emperor; Napoleon

Bonaparte sought to establish his supremacy over Europe. By 1812, this global fight was
severely draining Britain’s resources. 2
The Britain Royal Navy conquered the seas in 1805 after the Trafalgar Battle. The Royal
Navy imposed a blockade of Europe to stop food supply and warlike materials from reaching
their enemies. In the enactment of this rule, the Navy compelled the ships of the neutral nationstates to move in the British-controlled harbors where freights of illegal imports or smuggled
goods were detained. Moreover, merchant ships could be stopped on the high seas by British
sailors to be checked. The British considered all the British-born men to be their subjects even
though they had even immigrated to other countries. For instance, the British-born sailors
carrying American five citizenship papers and those who were in charge of ships of the neutral
nations were forced into the Royal Navy. Such British actions violated the Americans’
sovereignty. 3
The end of the American Revolution marked the expansion of the United States within
North America. As settlement was continually pushed westward and deep into the interior of the
continent, the Aboriginal inhabitants were displaced. The displacement and dispossession made
the made the first Nations people resist the settlement and in turn lead to in inerratic raids on
borderline settlement and all-out warfare between the US army several Aboriginal Nations. The
Aboriginal Nations led by a Shawnee Prophet, Tenskwatawa and his brother Tecumseh resisted
the American westward expansion. The US accused Britain of inciting Aboriginal leaders to
resist the Americans and supplying them with equipment, thus hindering America’s plans for
