UNDERSTANDING ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH IN TOTALITY
Cholera is one of the leading fatal yet treatable waterborne disease that causes
dehydration and diarrhea (Craun, 2018). Cholera illness causes intestinal infections that are
quite harmful. However, cholera symptoms vary greatly in different individuals ranging from
mild to severe illness condition. Cholera stems from Vibrio cholera bacteria. It originates
from the consumption of unsafe water contaminated by human wastes. Constant diarrhea
caused by cholera results to sunken eyes, wrinkled skin, and dehydration. Administering lots
of fluids, antibiotics, and IV fluids are some of the ultimate treatment for contagious cholera.
Antibiotics assists in reducing the duration of illness and fluid requirements. IV fluids on the
other side are administered to reduce dehydration. Cholera is an infectious disease that may
lead to loss of lives easily especially when patients are not given lots of drinks.
Typhoid is a bacterial disease that is caused by contaminated water. Through vaccine
administration, typhoid can be prevented partially. Typhoid is also an acute ailment that
causes fever. Typhoid illness is caused by Salmonella typhi. Typhoid fever on the other side
is a risky bacterial infection causing severe illness. Typhoid fever is life-threatening that is
transmitted through ingestion of contaminated water. Handwashing and typhoid vaccines are
ultimate measures that prevent the spread of typhoid that is treated using the vaccine.
Ampicillin is the ideal antibiotic that can be used in the treatment of typhoid fully.
Amoebiasis also described as amoebic dysentery is the third waterborne, disease
spread through a contaminated water. Diarrhea and abdominal pains are some of the common
indicators of amoeba (Craun, 2018). Amoebiasis is easily spread through consumption of
contaminated water. Cramping is also a common indicator of diarrhea. There is both acute
and chronic amoebiasis. Acute amoebiasis is linked to causing blood in the stool. Chronic
amoebiasis on the other side attracts gastrointestinal issues along with fever, tiredness and
