Modern Manifestation of the Islam Religion

There have been a lot of changes due to technology and globalization in the
contemporary world which have had a significant impact on different religions in positive and
negative ways. The way people view different religions in the modern world and how they are
represented in society is very different from 100 years ago. For example, people from different
faiths now stay together and share their beliefs due to globalization and technological
advancements. It is tough to find a society that has one religion only (Little). Due to this factor,
people don’t view their religions like how they would have viewed it before the changes in
trends of the world. For example, when one examines the Islam religion by how it works today
and the way it worked many years ago, one will understand how different aspects of Islam is a
monotheistic religion whose believers, Muslims, know that there is only one God who speaks to
people through his prophet Muhammed. Islam is the second largest religion in the world after
Christianity with an estimation of 1.6 billion followers. There are different manifestations of the
Islam religion in the modern word relating to how it interacts, influences, and how modern
societies influence it.

It is essential to understand the manifestation of the traditional Islam religion to connect
on how it changed in the modern world. The traditional manifestation of the Islam religion was
through three strong empires, Safavid Empire in Persia, Mughal Empire in India, and Ottoman
Empire in Istanbul. The three empires were like the pillar of Muslim making sure they dealt with
the challenges Islam was facing during the 14th, 15th, and 16th century. All the elements of the
Islamic religion made the religion grow complexity as time passed. The empires were multiethnic, multi-religious, and multi-political making Islam expands from just believing in prophets
and the disciples only. However, their powers and influenced started to reduce making the Islam
religion weak in the 19th century. It gave the Western countries like the British, French and
Dutch an opportunity to colonize most of the Islamic countries. The Islamic religions continued
to grow and change different perspectives especially on the different ways they choose to resist
the colonization. There are parts of Islamic religions that allowed complete modernization of
their societies; others resisted through nationalism and others through Islamic and political
activism. The different forms of resistance by the Islamic states define modern society (Martin et
al.).

There were a lot of things that happened during the resistance of colonialism in the
Islamic state. One of the events that manifest modern Islam is the resistance through the
formation of groups like Taliban led by Osama Bin Laden that later lost direction to become the
downfall of Islamic civilization. Laden fought against Colonialism claiming that they were
inhuman to the children, women, girls, and boys of the Islamic states like Afghanistan and Iraq
(Lewis). The claim was true because the main purpose of the western countries for colonization
was for economic benefits. Therefore, people like Bin Laden formed groups to fight off the
countries. They received aid from other countries who wanted to prevent the growth of other
