Summary
H.B Fuller Company is a company that has been leading in the market by selling different
kinds of adhesives and glues commercially. The glue is used to hold together different items,
from disposable diapers and cigarettes to cars. The company has however been receiving
criticism that it has failed in its moral obligations because some people have been using these
products for the unintended purpose (Shaw, 2016). Some homeless children have been misusing
the products especially Resistol, which is one of the company’s leading products and becoming
addicted. Advocates of child-welfare have been urging the company to change its ingredients so
as to stop children from abusing the glue. However, the company has resisted changing the
ingredients despite the fact that the company posts itself as a socially responsible company by
contributing to charity and by engaging in practices that promote a safe environment. On its side,
the company argues that changing the ingredients will reduce the effectiveness of the glue and
possibly irritate its legitimate customers. The company however responded by not selling the
glue to small-scale users and retailers, by changing the formula of Resistol, and by replacing
toluene, which is the sweet-smelling substance with cyclohexane (Shaw, 2016). The critics are
not yet satisfied by these moves and term them as image polishing.
