Using your selected topic, begin preparing the introduction and methodology section for the selected topic. Include the following in your paper:

  • Introductory section:
    • Develop your problem statement.
    • Develop a hypothesis on the topic you selected.
    • Include the hypothesis you submitted for Topic 3 DQ 2. Use the feedback you receive from the discussion forum to revise your hypothesis if necessary.
  • Include the following sections in your report:
    • Methodology section: Include subsections:
      • Participants- How many participants will be involved in the study? What were the relevant characteristics (age, gender, race, etc.)? How were they recruited? Provide additional information to for clarity.
      • Apparatus/ Materials/ Instruments- What materials or instruments were used in the experiment?
      • Procedure- Provide a clear description of all procedures followed in the study. Were there groups? Was there manipulation to control variables? Provide the steps of the study in chronological order for the reader.
      • Design- Briefly explain the design of the experiment and why that is the best design for your study.
  • Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

Introduction

Single parenting is when a father or mother takes care of one or more child on their own
without the physical presence of the other. Its origin is significantly attributed to parent mortality
rate, a consequence of unforeseen circumstances such as wars, disease, divorce, and death. Most
single-parent families result from the death of a mate (widowhood) or separation (divorce).
Single parenting has increased in recent years, which is known to affect most children
negatively. However, most of the single parenting families are headed by mothers. Indeed, it is a
profound fact that single parenting impacts the development of children in several areas of life,
essentially their emotional and behavioral development through the factors such as lack of
parental love, constitutional conflictions, financial instability, communication and parenting
style.
Being loved by both parents is essential for emotional and behavioral development of
children since the love of both parents gives children a sense of belongingness, helps them feel
secure and valued, comforts them and builds their self-esteem. Indeed, single parent children are
deprived of the love and affection of both parents, as either of the parents raises them. Therefore,
they develop emotions such as sensitivity, stress, frustration, low self-esteem, depression and
loneliness which results in aggressive behavior. For instance, they may show jealousy with
children having both parents.
