a) what you did that day to collect data, My first interview was with a Saudi Student. I have contacted with him a while ago informing him that I am working on a research paper for one of my classes and I want him part from it. He wanted to help. I texted him asking if we could meet at 12:00 pm on Friday. He agreed. We met on the Technology Center at Dominican University. We talked for little bit, and I told him for the purpose of this paper, we will need to speaker English. I have prepared questions as opening for the interview. Also, I have 2 copies of the Consent to Participate in Research form printed. I asked him to read and sign it if he has no objection. b) what went well, Since I know this person, I was able to go along with him with no problem. One of the main goals that I have is to make my interviewees comfortable, I believe I was able to have this goal applied. I asked him that if I can record and he did not mind. I thought that is great as it would help me as I am analyzing the data. c) what did not go well, and There are several things I realized they did not help much and did not serve as I am interviewing my friend. We did the interview in the Technology Center. The location was not good enough as there were many students talking and walking around. I felt that was little bit distracting. As we are doing the interview. The second would be the time, if the time is little bit late, the center would have less students which would allow the interview to be easier. d) what you can try differently, if need be. For my future interview, I would change the location or making sure the time is good where there is less distraction. a) what you did that day to collect data, I called a friend to meet for the interview. My first asked me If I could visit him at his apartment to do the interview. I wanted to make it him conformable to collect the data, I had to drive to his home to make the interview. I also had my questions ready to start the interview and also have two copies of the Consent to Participate in Research form printed so I share with him. b) what went well, The interview went well overall. All the questions that I asked where answered. I even did not have to explain the question using different word or even repeating the question again. My friend had no problem singing the Consent to Participate in Research form. c) what did not go well, and While I was interviewing my friend, a friend of him came. We had to stop the interview and we had talked with him for a while. We returned to the interview after that, but we had to remind what we were talking about since the interview was broken in the middle. I felt if we were not at his home, we would be more focus on the interview. d) what you can try differently, if need be. I would for sure try to find a place that has a formal sitting but still conformable for me and for people who I will interview because I want to make sure that there is no interruption for the interview. a) what you did that day to collect data, The third person I interviewed was a friend who I took with her a class when I first came to Dominican. I had to text her using Snapchat because I don’t have her phone number and did not want to send her email, so it is not formal. I informed her about the research I am working on, and how it is about international students. She welcomed the idea and wanted to be part of it. I asked her where about the best time and location to meet at the university. I want to make her comfortable snice she is talking classes at Dominican and at Illinois Institute of Technology. I prepared some questions and two copies of Participate in Research form. b) what went well, The interview was at the technology center at Dominican university. the interview went well. All the question I asked were answered. And she shared some good stories related to her interaction with the new culture. c) what did not go well, and The memory of my phone was full, so used her phone to record and she would send it soon. Also, when I asked my friend to read the Consent to Participate in Research form and sing it. She was not comfortable at the beginning, but she did I because he knows me. She told me that this looks scary. I , however, explain that this is just part of the paper and it’s a way to show that there is something will be count against you. d) what you can try differently, if need be. I will make sure, I have more space in my phone so I can record. I will also try to explain the Consent to Participate in Research form instead of making people read it only so that they don’t view it as a scary form.
