Description

Let’s take a closer look at the fundamental elements of Project 4 by going back to a few different ideas from throughout the semester, and like Devitt would encourage us to do, think about the portfolio as a genre— what is it? What does it look like? How do you know? To give you folks an idea of all of these things, I want you to look at the following examples and determine for yourselves what the genre of the portfolio is, and how best to approach it. To do this, follow the instructions below:

First, I want you to check out these successful portfolios from my classes in the past:

Next I want you to look at no fewer than 3 of the portfolios below. Here are links to some past student portfolios from other instructors:

Third, I want you to answer the following questions:

  1. Based on the examples you looked at, what elements define the genre of the portfolio? Or, in other words, what kinds of content and pages are present in these examples?
  2. List at least 3 types of texts or documents present on these portfolios.
  3. Focus on one specific portfolio: What’s the link to it? Who is the audience for this portfolio? How do you know? Try to be as specific as possible.
  4. Let’s think about the context for this portfolio— who is the audience of one of these portfolios in particular? What is the creator’s purpose?
  5. What did you see in these examples that you want to try to use as inspiration in your own portfolio?
  6. How do you see your own portfolio differing from the examples I’ve provided for you? Why do you anticipate this will be the case?
