I was with her for the surgery and stayed with her in the hospital and was there for her discharge and her main caregiver when she came as I was the only one that had a background in medicine. The hospital where my mom had her surgery was full on the orthopedic floor and so she was placed on the mom/baby unit. She liked hearing the new babies cry as she said it was a sweet sound. my mom said the only problem with being on the mom.baby unit was that the nurses were not familiar with caring for orthopedic patients. She was moved to the ortho floor a few days later after her surgery. The toughest part of her surgery was pain control as she did not do well with the pain and the pain meds they gave her to come home with made her hallucinate and go crazy, it was a rough time for sure.
