Description

As we have learned over the last five weeks, using literature in the classroom is a powerful tool for helping to meet your students’ developmental needs. For your Final Project, you will build upon the lesson that you created in Week Two of this course and develop it into a week-long unit. Your unit will need to include the following components:

  • A paragraph introducing your theme or concept for the entire week.
  • A rationale for your unit that clearly describes the stage of development the students you will be teaching are in.
  • A paragraph describing the work of a theorist whose beliefs help to support the use of this unit within this stage of development.
  • Create five different lesson plans that relate to the chosen theme/concept of your unit. One of these lessons should come from the Story Element Lesson Plan you created in Week Two.
    • It is required that you use the Lesson Plan Template to complete this portion of your assignment.
    • It is suggested that you utilize the Early Childhood and Child Development: Lesson Plan Handbook as a guide for how to more effectively plan this lesson.
    • At least one of your lesson plans should use a online story (www.storylineonline.net (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., www.magickeys.com/books (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., http://pbskids.org/lions/stories/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., http://storyplace.org/storyplace.asp (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.)
  • Explain how the objectives for your lessons measure concepts discussed in class (phonemic awareness, alphabetic principle, character, setting, plot, theme, etc.).
  • Identify and discuss a different genre of literature for each lesson plan (poetry, nursery rhymes, tactile books multicultural books, picture books, non-fiction books, series books, etc.). Feel free to use some of the literature you included in your weekly discussions if they are appropriate to your theme and stage of development.
  • Create a plan for how you will share the literature that you are using with your students’ families so they can help to support literacy acquisition. You could create a newsletter, plan a family literacy night, or even choose some ideas from the Parent Literacy Presentation you created in Week Three.
  • At least one scholarly source in addition to your textbook.

You will submit your unit as an eight- to ten-page word document, not including the title and reference page. Make sure you properly format your Final Project according the APA guidelines as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Elements such as the plot, characters, setting, theme and beginning and end of any literary work are significant to the development of an active children's book. If well incorporated, STORY ELEMENT LESSON PLAN 4 the elements mentioned above bring the vivid description to the child reading the book, an understanding of the setting of the book puts a child in the similar world and the themes explored in the literature work boosts brain development of the child. Grade level targeted In this work, the students in the middle, a secondary school also popularly referred to as junior secondary will be the subjects to be thought about this particular topic. Being that they have acquired little knowledge from their elementary education and primary, they stand at a better position of comprehending easily the work that the teacher intends to deliver. The book titled Enrique's Journey written by Sonia, in this case, will be used to elaborate on one of the story elements stated above. The author explores the life of a boy aged 17 years, Enrique, attempting to reunite with his mother who has been away for more than a decade. Characters as a story element Sonia in her book titled Enrique journey, she brings to the attention of the reader numerous characters. Some of these characters in her work can be categorized as main or minor characters. The characters in the story are being used by the writer to portray the image of the real society we are living in today. She highlights themes of unity, determination, corruption and migration through her main characters Enrique and his mother. The journey to America to look for his mother and the various challenges Enrique undergoes serves best to explain how corruption as them rampant in the migration department and the society today. Also, the journey portrays Enrique as a determined character who is ready to sacrifice to achieve his goals (Sonia, 2013). STORY ELEMENT LESSON PLAN Enrique's, on the other hand, she is presented as a hardworking, persistent, determined and caring character in this book. Again, gangsters and robbers at the train are characters representing the theme of insecurity immigrants are facing. Other minor characters in the book such as Isabel, Enrique's aunt, and grandmother are used to help in vivid description of the story in this book (Petersen, et al, 2017). A lesson plan for characters in Enrique's Journey Time length The lesson will be strictly for two hours. Objectives At the end of the lesson the student should be able to: 1. Give a quick summary of the concept of characters as you wrap up. Story map In this context, a story map on the looming hunger crisis in Africa has used maps to create a visual concept of what is going on in the size of the firm and the nutrient diversity in Africa. The story on the charts will play a pivotal role in developing the lesson about characters. The story will help in laying the background knowledge for students as maps make information to-the-point and remove extraneous explanations that will make the story less exciting and not attract the students. By so doing, the students will be fully prepared to here another story which probably the tutor is going to introduce (Sharp, et al, 2018). Conclusion In conclusion, a lesson plan enables the teacher to utilize the classroom time and resources needed for the course. A paragraph introducing the theme or concept for the whole week
The theme focused on a grade level target student. This is a student in the middle, a
secondary school also popularly referred to as junior secondary. Being that they have acquired
little knowledge from their elementary education and primary, they stand at a better position of
comprehending easily the work that the teacher intends to deliver. This theme will also help in
understanding this children behaviour and to know how to deal with them at this stage. In the
society, these age bracket is termed as the teenagers, and most of them are in the adolescent period.
Furthermore, ways to deal with them during this stage as a teacher is essential (Fall
et,.2015)
A rationale explaining for my unit that clearly describes the stage of development of
the student
The reasons for teaching this child in the middle age is that I like interacting with the young
people because they are humorous, their level of understanding its high, they are very cooperative
with their teachers, they know the role of student to teacher learning, they can be easily controlled,
directed and advised. Also, they can share their problems with their teachers as well as interacting
with them (Black et al.,2017).
Describe the work of a theorist whose beliefs helps to support the middle age level
student s.
A theorist by the name Jean Piaget formulated a theory in cognitive development. His
theory states that in every stage when a child is growing, he or she develops in thoughts and mind.
Also, his argument tries to make us understand that as children grow, he understands how to
interact with the world and the environment. He describes the middle stage theory as the age where

children are more innovative, develops new skills. Have excellent planning memory, easily
understands and have logical thoughts (Crain, 2015).
Creating five different lesson plans
Characters in the story of exceptional child book
According to the book, the first book I choose for the lesson plan is called a unique child.
The authors of this book are K. Eileen Allen and Glynnis E.Cowdery. the story has three characters
which are children with disabilities. The first child is called Chanda who has da own syndrome,
and she attends a daily child health care program when the parents are at work. Also, the second
child Devon who suffers from autism and after school he attends swimming classes. Moreover,
the third is called Jonathan who suffers from a communication failure, but he is a member of the
choir in their church. All these three children are involved in disabilities, but they can participate
in various programs.
They are in a class which consists of six children with, disabilities and six without
limitations. The writer tries to bring out what happens in real life society in that the children with
special needs can participate in other programs in the community. The main themes portrayed in
this book includes cooperation, unity, peer tutoring, mainstreaming and inclusion. In my reflection,
this book tries to challenge the parents who don’t give their children an opportunity to attend school
and also in other activities. What they are supposed ed too they should provide these children with
their right this is because disability it’s not inability. The character trait which applies to the three
disabled children includes is that they are determined, in that after school they both attend
programs which helps them to improve their skills in various ways (Allen, 2014)
