How would you characterize your family member or friend’s political ideology? Why would you
characterize it in this way?

Talking to my friend Tom about government spending and taxation, I concluded that he
is a conservative based on his beliefs. Tom argued that the government should tax only what is
necessary to come up with enough money for its necessary spending. He said that it was only
necessary for the government to maintain basic infrastructure & national security, protect the
citizens against terrorism and crime, and enforce contracts.
