as an institution where two people converge. For Coontz, she insists that marriage should be
based on an intense feeling of love and couples should keep the love alive until they die. For
Coontz, she explores the different ways in which different cultures view marriage and love. In
some cultures, they do not marry because of love, but they still get married, and along the way,
they fall in love. For some cultures, they allow polygamy where wives share the same man
socially and sexually. To some cultures, they view love as some weakness to marriage. In some
