Introduction and Purpose
Cascade Engineering Company is a manufacturing plant that specializes in making of
products automotive parts, wind turbines, garbage cans and many other products that are
environmentally friendly. It is situated in Grand Rapids Michigan. The Company originally
started in 1973 as a mold tryout department. At its commencement, it was led by Fred P. Keller.
Issues to do human resource management within the company started a few days after the
company had just started. History of this company has it that the management found itself with
no single employee two weeks after the company had commenced. This necessitated Keller to
come up with several other ways of recruiting and retaining long-term employees. After several
types of research on why recipients of welfare were no able to make a transition from
unemployed ranks to successful employment, Keller and his management found out that
individuals from low-income backgrounds had various cultural differences that made it very
difficult for them to transit to the middle class. New employees were not able to easily conform
to common rules and etiquette which were necessary for the success of the job. For example,
many did not know that it was very important to call and inform the employer if they were going
to be late. Work attendance was faced with so many challenges like lack of reliable
transportation. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to look at human resource challenges
facing Cascade engineering Company by designing a strategic human resource plan that will
offer a long-term solution for these challenges.
The proposed human resource strategic plan design will be made of aspects like a focus
group, technology, recruiting, and onboarding, managing careers, the establishment of rewards
and play plans and employee benefits. It is important to start by looking at each of these aspects
first.
