“A leader should inspire others to learn more, do more and become more,” I agree with
John Quincy Adams who coined this statement. According to me, leadership involves
influencing people to achieve the goals of an organization in a fast cohesive and coherent
manner. A leader should be ahead of others, and he should be more focused on helping people. A
good leader takes more blame than credit (Shirey, 2006). A good leader should be aiming to
achieve excellence while building organization character. A good leader should be a person who
can be trusted, and they are people who should be admired by the people they lead. A good
leader is the one who strives be inspiring, honest, intelligent and a person who does not back
down to what they believe in. A good leader should be realistic and experienced to learn from the
mistakes of others. Therefore, a good leader should be all-encompassing and a person who is
involved in solving other people needs. This is my perspective of a good leader and what
leadership ought to be.
My experience with health caregivers informs my thoughts about lead ership. The
experience revolves around the time my grandfather was admitted to the hospital. The feelings I
developed and the daunting task that was ahead of me about taking care of him changed my
perspective about leadership. This was a moment that shaped how I conceive leadership. The
moment one is left with a family member who is ill take care of him/her makes one build
competency, practice care and one get confident on how to take care of a family member.
According to Klenke, (2016), authentic leaders should be principled, and they should
prove their worth by nurturing the development, and they should always give honest input.
Authentic leaders are supposed to encourage those they lead and also to appreciate the success of
others. Authentic leadership promotes team performance, and an also support individual growth.
