Despite a large number of studies and research conducted regarding Supply Chain
Models (SCM), there still exist a lot of gaps in the knowledge base. Being an interdisciplinary
sector of research, SCM makes up a number of different functions between and within
organizations. Experts suggest that much of the data and knowledge in SCM still exist in its
constituent parts such as information technology, logistics, marketing, and purchasing. The
marketing has led to the emergence of functional silos which make the effective implementation
of the SCM a task that is complex and puzzling for the managers and other stakeholders to
complete. Additionally, one of the sectors that have gained a lot of attention in SCM is based on
its definition as well as the theoretical base. There are some experts and scholars who tend to
question the theoretical coherence of SCM as well as attribute it to the paradigms diversity and
this area’s applied theories of research.
