Final Project Outline Group 8
● Name of the Company: Victoria’s Secret
○ Victoria’s Secret is a company that specializes in selling women’s
underwear, lingerie, clothing, and beauty products. They are a
global company with over 200 stores that is rapidly expanding
and promoting their clothing through ad’s and yearly fashion
shows.Within L Brands ( parent company), Victoria's Secret
represents three subgroups: Victoria's Secret Lingerie, Victoria's
Secret Beauty, and Pink.
○ Mission: Victoria’s Secret is committed to building a family of
fashion brands delivering the most captivating customer service
experience
○ Vision: to deliver excellent customer service through listening,
connecting and inspiring in order to create a luxurious,
memorable experience for the customer.
○ Strategy: “We don’t just sell products...we sell experiences.”
-Leslie H. Wexner, founder, CEO and chairman of L brands.
Victoria’s Secret is “forward thinking, people focused,
responsible and influential.”
● For this project, we will be assessing Victoria Secret’s Training and
Development
○ For this, we will most likely use the library to look for any cases
where some HR issues arrived involving Victoria’s Secret. Most
likely, we will be looking for law/legal cases where some issues
came up.You will want to research training and development
○ We will also be using library databases searching the name L
brands, which is the parent company to Victoria's Secret. This
will give us insight into any newspaper articles that may indicate
any past issues with training to give us a deeper understanding
to their training techniques and strategies. Not sure?
○ By early December, we hope to be able to find all the
information we need through journals, databases and interviews
and other internet resources such as glassdoor, and indeed in
order for us to start working on putting our project together.
What information are you gathering exactly?
○ We can also asses their training program’s effectiveness by
asking our team member who is in management what the
process of training entails and if it is effective. She can also ask
current employees who work at her store if they are satisfied
with the training or if they feel the training they received needs
improvement. Effectiveness is more than satisfaction - you will
need to gather information on what they do to train and develop
managers? As well as interview 3 people to determine how well
they are implementing their training and development programs
○ Another way to analyze effectiveness of training is by looking at
reviews on Glassdoor for example to see if to see what others
are saying a about the training at Victoria’s Secret. Maybe This
way we won't get a biased perspective by researching only one
store.
○ Looking at retention rates is also a good way to determine if the
employees feel equipt and confident to do their job.ok but focus
on how well their training and development is being implement
and how well it aligns with their mission and strategy
● Most of the information for Victoria’s Secret we plan to get through
interviews
○ One of our group members is a manager at Victoria’s Secret, so
we plan to use the information she already knows as well as her
connections with other managers/higher-ups in order to find the
information we need. Gather information on the process and
interview three people; develop your questions after you conduct
research
○ We plan to conduct interviews right after we finish presenting
our HR topic presentation on November 15th. We also expect to
close up interviews by early December so we still have time to
put all the information together. That is cutting it close for the
presentation on Dec 6
● How will we calculate ROI:
ROI = (Avg. profit per store post training – Avg. profit per store
pre-training)- cost of training / Cost of Training
To find the return on investment, we would first find the Average
profit per store before we implement our new training methods.
This would give us a base number to compare the profit
difference after we implement the new training. Then, we would
take the difference between the pre and post profit per store in
order to find out how much more money we made. Then, we
would divide by the cost of training to get the ROI.
● How will we analyze the effectiveness of their practice?
○ Researching their earnings statement in sec.gov, comparing and
looking for growth from each time period and using those as
reference
○ Since one of our group members work for the company, she
could also provide some recent data from her specific store that
may help to analyze results, considering what is allowed to be
shared publicly.
How will we make recommendations for Victoria’s Secret on their
training practice: based on your analyses and research
○ Research what they are currently doing for training and
assessing how well their training is working through interviewing
some current and newly hired associates about their response on
their trainings.
How do your recommendations
impact the business what is the business case?
● How will we determine the business implications
○ By interviewing a current manager about their encounters and
experiences in the business regarding implications that may
affect the way the store is ran be it in operations, customer
service or just the whole store as a whole.
○ Another way to analyze implications would be to look at past
management of the company such as the CEO. A change in
management could drastically affect the company’s rules and
guidelines, thus effecting how the company trains their
employees and as a result could affect sales. We can search how
well the company is doing in a particular year by looking at
investors release pages and business reports, then determine if
the company had a change in management that particular year.

Cover Page w/Name of Company, Logo, Name of Team Members, Date, Class
Table of Contents w/section titles and subtitles and page numbers
Executive Summary – 1 page single-spaced summary which Includes all aspects of report
including the impact your recommendations will have on your organization’s overall
performance.
Introduction - What is the purpose of this report? What are you analyzing, what process did
you follow? How did you get your information?
Company Overview- approx. 2 – 3 pages. Provide an overview of your organization:
background and history of organization, including the mission/vision and strategy; revenue,
customers, geographic locations. Demographics and number of employees, and positions.
Use Chicago Manual Style 16th edition for your citations and use the footnote format.
http://www.citationmachine.net/chicago
Name of the HR Practice (name the practice you are writing about for example:
Performance Management) approx.. 3 – 4 pages
This is where you will provide your discussion of the research you conducted on the practice
for your project. For example if your topic is performance management you would write
what you found out from the various research articles you reviewed on what the
performance management process in an organization is - with footnotes to cite your research
from HR journals. You are encouraged to use a graphic to depict what your HR practice
entails. Explain the importance of the HR practice to the organization’s strategy with
evidence from research conducted.
Name of the HR practice in your organization’s name here (for example: Performance
Management Practices and Activities at Google) approx. 3-5 pages
Here you will provide a detailed description of what your organization does with respect to
the practice you are writing about in an organized explanation that walks the reader through
the process step by step. Describe the steps it follows to execute your HR practice; and lists
the activities the organization engages in each step relative to the practices. For example
you can provide a graphic, a table, and/or a flowchart of the steps they follow including
what activity takes place in each step; also describe who is involved at each stage. Then
explain each step in the narrative. The idea is to determine how far into the organization
the practice is effective. If only managers engage in your practice, then how effective can it
be? The same applies if only employees engage and managers do not how effective can it
be? Provide your source for your information: such as intranet access, materials you were
able to access from the company; information from interviews (a minimum of three people in
your company). Use footnotes and cite your sources for the information you gathered; and
any graphics that are not developed by you. Remember this is mostly fact-finding. You want
to gather information here to find out what they say they do (HR and materials) and in your
interviews you want to find out how well are they doing what they say they do (by asking
employees at different levels about the specific practices); and what is not being done well
based on what you learned in your research.

Example of graphics (use SmartArt, Shapes in word to create your graphics)
Analyses of the Effectiveness of the Practice (for example: Analyses of the Effectiveness of
Performance Management Practices at Google) approx. 3 -5 pages
Here you will compare what your company does against the 1) research you conducted on
the HR Practice; and 2) three companies known for their best practices on this specific topic
(not just any company but ones known for having best practices in this particular HR practice
area). Use footnotes and cite your sources for your research.
Strengths: Discuss what they do well as it relates to the HR practices (for example
here what Google does really well as it relates to their performance management process)
and explain why your team feels these are strengths based on the research you conducted
and cite your sources.
Opportunities for Improvement: Discuss what they do not do well related to the HR
practice (for example what does Google need to do better in order to ensure that their
performance management process is working for everyone to make sure they all work
towards the organization’s goals and objectives). Explain why your team feels these are
weaknesses and opportunities for improvement based on your research. You can create a
table and then write a narrative to explain your graphic/table. Be sure to cite your sources
using a footnote format.
In order to summarize this section develop a table with strengths and opportunities for
improvement side by side to support what you discuss above. You should use this for your
presentation.
