Introduction
The US has been the home for many immigrants from all over the wide for a long period
of time. Most of the immigrants settled in the US over two century ago and their population is
constantly on the rise. In terms of populations, the currently the Chinese people make up 5% of
the current 44 million US immigrants at 2.3 million people. The Chinese immigrant’s population
in the US is currently ranked third after Mexico and Indians. The immigrants of the Asian origin
form a significant proportion of the US immigrant population. Over the time there has been
growing income disparities and changes among the Asian Americans. Most specifically, the
existing statistics indicates that the income for Chinese immigrants to the US has increased over
time. This paper seeks to establish the income changes in household Chinese immigrants in New
York City from 2000 to 2015. The paper will also figure out how the factors such as education
and occupation may cause this result.
Background
Chinese US Citizens
The US is home to immigrants of different origins or backgrounds. These immigrants
come from countries all over the world and as far as from Asia. Originally, people thought that
immigrants settled in the US in the 1800s but the three are still immigrants to the US till to date.
The US citizens of the Chinese descent comprises of American-born Chinese which comprise of
Americans bearing full or partial Chinese ancestry. In addition, it’s good to note that Chinese US
citizens comprise one group of overseas Chinese as well as a subgroup of East Asian Americans
that also make up a subgroup of Asian US citizens.

well as those having partial Chinese ancestry for approximately 1.5% of the entire U.S.
population as of 2017. Out of this, the Chinese US citizens comprise of 3.79 million, Filipino
comprise of 3.41 million, Indian were 3.18 million, Vietnamese were 1.73 million, Korean was
1.7 million, and Japanese amounted to 1.3 million. In addition, in 2010 more than half of the
Chinese-born people residing in the US resided in the California and New York states.
