POL 203: Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution Final Exam Name: ____________________________________ Date of Presentation: ________________________ Diplomacy in Action Final Project (15% of final grade): At the end of the semester, you will have the opportunity to serve as an ambassador and practice the art of diplomacy by participating in a simulated summit on topics related to foreign policy, diplomacy, and conflict resolution. The final project consists of a simulated Summit experience based on a timely theme that will be determined near the end of the course. This case will entail some type of conflict resulting from a political, economic, environmental, international public health, natural disaster, or other related area. During the Summit, you will have the opportunity to incorporate the research you conducted from your case study. As your country’s leader, you will present your findings to the rest of the Summit leader participants. This presentation of your position briefings, in a Summit format, will occur during the end of the semester. After taking your role, related to the conflict, you will each have the opportunity to present your stance on each issue during the simulation. You will need to research your role in its entirety and it should be connected to International Relations theory and linked to real world events in diplomacy and foreign policy. As well, you will prepare your position based on ideas and theory we review as well as current information gathered from Library Press Display, NGOs, IGOs, various think tanks, as well as governments. Consideration for resolution of the conflict should also be included. Keep in mind, your prepared positions should highlight the historical context. They should also contain a detailed review of the current situation, parties involved, attempts at diplomacy (which maneuvers) as well as any foreseen possibilities at overcoming the situation, based on your country’s stance. Please refer to the Course Schedule for the designated dates as we will prepare for the Summit once you have completed your policy papers. Attendance is mandatory.
