Using the case study of "Tina", write a 500-750 word essay in which you examine your thought process about her presenting issues. Include the following in your paper:
- Discuss the historic and cross-cultural perspectives of psychopathology that could potential impact the diagnosis and treatment of Tina.
- After reviewing the several diagnoses that could pertain to Tina from the latest version of the DSM, what is your diagnostic impression?

The historic and cross-cultural perspectives of psychopathology significantly influence the
diagnosis and treatment of Tina. Tina and her mother are convinced that Tina’s condition
involving hearing voices is associated with witchcraft. This is a common historic and crosscultural perspective of mental illnesses held by some cultures (Dziegielewski, 2015). However,
while some communities have become conversant with mental illnesses including their causes
and appropriate treatments, some of these cultures still hold-on to their beliefs and believe that
mental illnesses are associated with witchcraft. Consequently, these families prefer having a
witchdoctor intervene rather than have a certified physician look into their treatments. As a
result, the cultural beliefs and values of Tina and her mother will influence the diagnosis and
treatment of Tina. Tina and her mother are opting to go for a witchdoctor which brings in the
question of whether the counselor should help them understand psychopathology or respect their
beliefs and allow them to seek the treatment they are confident and comfortable with. Thus, due
