Lou 1 Wonderful Trip Tomorrow is the final exam. You’ve done most of your homework, and there's only one essay left. You need to write a paper on game history, which is a challenging subject. You’ve been thinking about it for days, but you still don't know how to write it. You curse the professor in your heart. It is midnight, and you haven't eaten all day. You feel hungry and tired, and then you fall asleep at your desk. Suddenly a cold wind blows through, and you wake up with a shiver. When you open your eyes, you find yourself in room Thiemann Three. This is the classroom of game history. You are shock to stand up and look around. No one is in the classroom. At this time the classroom lights were off. Professor Micha walks into the classroom. She is dressed like a witch and with a witch hat. “I heard that you cursed me," she said. "For that reason, I'm going to give you five questions which you will have to answer all correctly to get out of here. Otherwise, you will get stuck here forever!” (Professor Micha then disappears with the strange laughter). You can't believe what is happening in front of you. You hit yourself with a slap, but the pain notifies you that it isn’t a dream. And gets notice of the only thing to work on is simply as according to the professors said words. You see something on the table on the classroom front, and quickly rush to the table. There is a watch on the table. ⚫ Pick up Watch-go to page 3. Lou ⚫ Look for an exit. 2 Lou 3 After picking off the watch, there is a strong glowing formed, and on an open of the eyes, you find yourself standing in the ruins of a city. The area looks deserted as most of the buildings are collapsed, even with no doors or windows. Everything looks messed up in the area. “Is anyone here? “You yield a shout. “Hi? I have been eagerly waiting for you, nice to meet you!” the sound comes from the watch. A yellow-haired boy appears on the watch screen. Immediate recognition of the Boy is visualized in me; his name is pip-boy who comes from the game Fallout. “I will help you, but on a condition that you will have to answer my questions. What is the first Avatar? And why are game characters indispensable? PIP-boy asks. “Here are the answers; the first Avatar is an eyeball in Maze War. In Isbister's article 'Character' she comprehends that, 'Characters ground players is what to expect and how to feel, providing them with challenge and emotional engagement that is frequently mapped to deeply engrained patterns in the human psyche.'( Isbister 73) This strongly explains of why the characters are important in the game." You answer. Pip-boy smile and say, "Well, you pass my test, you may go back! I have two presents here, which one do you like best ?" ⚫ Mushroom-go to page 4. ⚫ Compass-go to page 5. Lou 4 The area is full of mushrooms in few intervals. Everything is clear in the area, and the sky is well seen. It looks like a garden of mushrooms. On touching a mushroom, it gets bigger and becomes a huge monster. Suddenly, there appears a man falling from the sky. The man steps on the mushroom and the Mushroom monster disappears. The man is Mario. Mario looks at you and asks, "Are you all right? “You shake your head (Implying of a No). He continues and asks "Is it the professor Micha who sent you here? You should know that I will ask you a question and you will only leave when you answer it correctly, ok?” You nod. “In Swalwell's article ' Classic Gaming ', the author said ' classic video games is determined by some factors-age, aesthetics, nostalgia.it ' s important to appreciate video games for the unique character-the balance they strike between the technology and the conText they were created in. '(Swalwell 80) So what do you think a classic game should have? " Without a deep thought, you answer," I think a classic game should have its merits, it should be innovative, and many of the games after it can learn a lot from it.” Mario smile and say: "Very good, I will send you to the next room. Here are two presents, pick one!" ⚫ Compass-go to page 5. ⚫ Sword-go to page 6. Lou 5 On picking up a compass, the whole classroom begins to shake. And on the lifting of the head, you find yourself in a cave. "Can you give me my compass back?" "A woman's voice is heard on your back. On turning around, you realize that Laura is standing behind you. Laura suddenly grabs the compass and carefully checks it, "I have no time, I have to go to the next city. As long as you answer my question, I will send you back. Listen carefully, my question is, what kind of adventure game do you think is successful?” “According to Montfort’s article ‘Adventure’, he explains that ‘The most successful adventure games are not the ones which almost eliminate puzzles but ones where the activity of solving is made not only challenging but also enjoyable and meaningful.’(Montfort 41) ‘Adventure' It is to my thought that a good adventure game should be immersive, just like you're really taking a risk!" "Good answer. Would you like to take a risk with me? “Laura asked. "No, I have an assignment due tomorrow," you replied. "As long as you pass the test; you can go back to the classroom! I have to go now! You will find a sword at the bottom of the cave. It will take you out of here.See you! “Laura runs away. “Take care Laura!” You go on into the cave. There is a sword there. ⚫ Pick the sword-go to page 6 Lou 6 On picking of the sword, the ground begins to crack, and you fall into a frozen lake. When you crawl out from the lake, everything around was frozen. All the things around me have been frozen. You trembled in the cold, and a low voice said, "If you dare touch my sword again, I will kill you." The area is near a lakeside where every object is frozen covered with ice. One could feel the cold into his muscle tissues and to the veins. The area looks so white, and the lake water is so frozen even one can walk on its surface. The water is in a solid form. "The Lich King?" You shout. The Lich King said "You have to answer my question correctly if you want to get out of here. My question is simple, what is machinima? " " In Ng’s article ‘ machinima’, machinima is defined as , ‘Among this host of connotations in the neologism, the machine remains the singular element for understanding machinima, which are commonly defined as films made by real-time three-dimensional (3D) computer graphics–rendering engines.’(Ng 365) It's a really a simple question. “You smile and say. "I just want you to get out of my country, and I have no time to play with the children, get out of here! “The Lich King shouted. “Don’t be angry, I am leaving right now!” You quickly turn around and leave. On your way back you find a game controller Lou on the side of the road. ⚫ Pick it up-go to page 8 7 Lou 8 On picking up the game controller, the classroom becomes a Greek temple. Silence prevails in the room with blood stains on the wall. It looks like an ancient temple but very beautiful there’s a lot of bodies on the floor. "Are you here to challenge me?" Asks a man sitting on the throne. The man is Kratos, the god of War. “No, no, no, the professor Micha sent me here! “You’re scared of him. "Then you should know the rules, and you must answer my question. What is the four conceptions' game playing? What is the difference between them? "Kratos continue. “The four conceptions are submission, constrained freedom, subversion, creation. In Juul's article 'playing' he talks about their differences, ‘Broadly stated, the first two conceptions are game-centric in that they focus on the game design’s contribution to the game - playing the activity, whereas the two latter conceptions are player-centric in that they emphasize the player s contribution. '(Juul 442) This is a simple question. “You said. “Very well, you can go now. I need a rest!Take this game coin.” he says. I am thankful for leaving that place, and fear was almost eating me up there. I see death on my side. ⚫ Pick up the game coin-go to page 9. Lou 9 When you pick up the game coin, you find that you are in a arcade , where there are many cabinet game machines, just like a museum. "Is anyone there? You shout, but no one answers you. So you start going around in the arcade, but you don't find the exit. Suddenly,a voice come from far. "Hey, young man, Would you like to play a game?" You find that the sound comes from the machine in the middle of the arcade., so you run to the machine. "Play games? No, I just want to get out of here!""You say to the machine. " Get out? You must finish the first level of the game, and then I will show you how to get out of here!" "Is this the only way out?If I finish, you have to get me out of here." "I promise!” Then the machine's screen lit up. You're confident in your game technology, and you put coin into the machine, and this is a sonic game machine, and sonic is a world-famous character. This game is a kind of adventure game, you control sonic to run forward, and collect gold rings, but You can't let the enemy touch you., otherwise the game is over. "Great,I've played this game before!”You think. Although you have played this game, it is still very difficult. After you failed six times, you finally succeed. "Wow, I did it!”You shout with excitement. "Congratulations, I will sent you out."The machine spoke again. "As a reward, I'll give you some hints about the final exam in tomorrow." "Really? That would be very nice!" At this point, a line of words appears on the screen, " Changes in pastime activities and in patterns of consumption, mobility, and media use work against the amusement arcade, which may survive mostly as a nostalgic showcase . Pocket game consoles and mobile phones point toward a“postarcadean era,” where amusements travel with their users. Mobile lifestyles, FaceTime sessions while walking, rapid-fire tweets, and games that unfold on sweaty palms squeezing smartphones are tokens of a cultural Lou transformation that has eclipsed the arcade.(Erkki 45)" You read this text many times "I've memorized it, thank you.”you say to the machine. “You're welcome, goodbye!”The screen is off. Then the door open and there is a magazine on the ground at the door. ⚫ Pick up the magazine-go to page 11 10 Lou 11 You pick up the magazine, you find there is an article talks about sexism at Riot, and you read it.When you finish reading, you find yourself in a canyon..Everything around you looks very familiar. You are surprise and say:"Is this summoner's rift?". "Yes, welcome, summoner."A voice behind you. "Garen?"You see Garen stand there, Garen is the most famous character in the league of legends . "Yes, I am Garen. How are you?"Galen is holding his big sword. He is tall and strong. "I'm fine, nice to meet you, but why am I here?"You ask. "I come here to say sorry. I'm sure you've read the magazine"Galen looks very upset. "Yes, I am really angry about the sexism at Riot." "I know a lot of people are angry about this, and that's why I calle you here," Garen say. "They already know it's wrong. They're starting to change." "How?”You ask. "Riot ran Definitely Not Sexual Harassment Training,Riot se up a new department,They do bias training. They evaluate their job candidate recruiting sources. They’re partnering with diversity-minded nonprofits. (Cecilia)" You still angry:“Sexism is that this has to stop. Men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. It is the theory of the political, economic and social equally of the sexes.” "Yes, I am sure they will correct their mistakes."Galen say. And you say:“Riot is a big company, and I love league of legends.I believe they will give the public a satisfactory answer.” Suddenly a voice come from far away: “Garen,we need your help!” Garen looks worry, "My companions seem to be under attack, and I must help them." "No problem, you are very nice and you will win the battle!" Lou 12 "Thank you. Nice to meet you today.I have something for you, and you can leave here with it.Galen takes a green hat out of his backpack and gives it to you. " This hat will show you the way out here.I must go, goodbye."Garen run away. You look at the green hat in your hand,You seem to have seen this hat before. Suddenly the hat flew up, it seems to be to take you out of here, so you follow the hat . 10 minutes later, the hat leads you to a castle ⚫ To the castle -go to page 13 ⚫ Continue walking through summoner's canyon. He gave me this hat.” "Garen?Garen gave you my hat?”Link seems to know Garen. “yes, please don't be angry. I'm not a thief. Here's your hat.” Link walks up to you and takes the hat."There seems to be a misunderstanding. Galen and I are good friends. He often jokes with me." Link keep saying: "sorry, it's my fault. It's very beautiful inside. "Did you build this castle?”You ask link. "No, it was built by game designers, and I'm very grateful to them." "It's amazing here.""You sigh. "What are games best suited for?” "Since games are composed of rules, they are unnecessary dead to explore systems and dynamics. "Very well, welcome to join us."The group leader shakes hands with you. "Thank you. What are you talking about?"You find a seat and sit down. "We're talking about why games are becoming more and more similar. Do you have any ideas?"The group leader says to you. "Emmm,I think that games spend a lot of money,Publishers and shareholders are not going to permit a game that is experimental either in terms of its content or in terms of its design. They will follow its previously established model." "Great. As you say, many games imitate one another. It's really boring."The group leader go on, "I know another female designer. She is very unique. She keeps designing her own games.Do you want meet her?” "Sure, how can I find her?"You ask the team leader.
