T. Chocos– POST #6 Due: April 23, 2018
SELF-ASSESSMENT -Look back at all the work you have completed on-line, major papers and write your
progress report for what and how you have improved in such a short time. You may begin by
answering some of these questions below:
1. What are your responsibilities as a student?
2. Do you think that you have succeeded in this class? What have you done that has helped you
achieve progress?
3. Describe your English skills in critical thinking, reading and writing at the beginning of the
course compared to the end of the semester?
4. To what extent have you improved in the process of reading actively and writing with meaning?
5. How have your Healey Library experiences helped you develop your understanding about
resources? Discuss the value of primary vs. secondary sources.
6. In order to answer these questions, you must be specific and give an example of what you do
differently as a result of this class.

For example, when you write, are you more organized? Do you follow some kind of logical
development in your writing?
Do you think about your audience who need to know more about your topic?
Do you explain specifically your points by also offering a meaningful quote and analysis?
Do you know how to set-up a quote by providing some relevant background information about
the author?
Do you know how to summarize his/her ideas before the quote without using the same words
from the quote itself?
In your analysis, have you provided your interpretation in connection to the point you are
making in your paper?
When you read, do you write on one side of the paragraph in your own words, what is the
author doing? Is s/he offering statistics, examples, definition, descriptions, background,
problems, causes, effects and what is the reason for doing so?
Do you include your thoughts based on each paragraph you read?
Do you visualize the content, character and dilemmas and make personal connections?
Do you closely examine the causes and effects?
7. What has been your best writing you have done in this class? You can select anything from your
in-class, short assignments or academic paper. Be specific and explain why it was your best.
8. What else do you think you can do before the semester ends to improve your English?
9. What do you feel are your weaknesses that prevent you from doing your best and progressing?
10. How do you feel overall about your commitment to learning and improving your English and this
course? Explain why.
11. What assignment or classroom activity, topic, writing, reading did you enjoy the most and why?
