The Strange Days on Planet Earth video is an eye-opening documentary of the threat of
alien species to the whole world. This includes humans, animals, plants and the geography of the
lands. The alien species as defined in the video are the species of animals that are not native to a
nation, country or continent they currently reside. For this reason, the presence of such species
has been seen to be more harmful. The species which are alien to the native ecological set up are
said to be alien invaders.
All species are seen to want to increase their resources and their reach and this is what
causes them to move about (National Geographic, 2005). In ancient times and when modes of
transport included animals only the migration of species across continents was limited.
Thereafter with the development of the wheel and the rise in modern horse carriages and steam
trains and with the development of better sea boats, transportation of goods and people evolved.
People could now travel longer distances and could explore new lands and territories. With the
increased movement of people between continents increased trade as people from different
regions exchanged goods and services. The invention of air travel meant that trade and transport
were both boosted in regards to speed. This convenience and ease of transport have led to both
unintentional and intentional transportation of species across the world, with some of the species
being harmful to the new terrain they settle in.
The documentary gives several examples of how different species have negatively
affected different ecosystems. In New Orleans, termites are a threat to the buildings in the area
which are mostly made of wood. The invasion of this species on New Orleans has been
attributed to the World War Two ...
