The Causes of Reformation
The Reformation began in the 16th Century when the Pope's authority was challenged by
Martin Luther, John Calvin, and Henry VII. The Church's ability to purify the Christian practice
and the need for the transfer of power from the Pope to the Bible was the leading causes of the
Reformation. Firstly, most people felt that the Catholic Church had been engulfed by corruption.
Secondly, the priests sent from Rome did not speak the local language, and neither was the Bible
translated into local languages, and the priests rarely responded to the people's spiritual needs,
due to poor policies set by the Vatican. The Vatican controlled the Church messages, and there
was no transparency regarding the translation of the sermon, as well as there was no verification
from the congregation.
Thirdly, Europe was in the middle of a political transformation as nationalism became
