Competence 1
Law enforcement, the judicial system, and the correctional facilities are the three main critical
aspects of the criminal justice system. However, there are the ethical issues and practices that
surround the whole system. They should be considered during the process of law enforcement
from arrest to the time the individual is set free from the correctional facility.
The balance of power and authority is the main ethical issue in the system. There has to be an
understanding on which role is to be played by which department of the three involved in the
criminal justice system. Police are the main subjects in this case especially when it comes to the
process of arrest and arraignment in a court of the suspects. The excessive use of power and the
process of acquiring evidence have been questioned by many. It is not always that the evidence
provided in court is legitimate as some of the witnesses may be forced by circumstances to work
with the law enforcers to implicate the suspect.
It is the role of the correctional facilities to ensure that those incarcerated are there for
rehabilitation and to correct their behaviors (Siegel & Worrall 2018). How the inmates are
