Walmart is a multinational retail chain store based in the United States. The retail
corporation operates a chain of grocery stores, supermarkets, hypermarkets, and a number of
discount stores across the world. The Company headquarter is in Bentonville, Arkansas in the
United States. Founded in 1962, the company was incorporated in 1969 and has grown to
become the largest retail store in terms of employees and revenue generation (Walmart, 2018).
By 2017, the company had over 2.3 million employees and had generated over $500, billion in
revenues by the end of the financial year. It is a publicly traded, though wholly controlled by the
Walton Family who owns over 50% of the shares through Walton Enterprises.
The company trades as WMT in NYSE and is a component of DJIA, S&P 100 and S&P
500. The company deals in electronics, home furniture, clothing, footwear, home improvements,
jewelry, cosmetics, pet supplies, toys, fitness and sporting goods, Grocery, and photo supplies. It
also provides its customers with services such as Pickup Today, Walmart Pay, WalmartWalmart, Walmart.com and Walmart Money Card (Walmart, 2018). The company has four
major divisions globally namely the Walmart U.S, Global eCommerce, Walmart International,
and Sam's Club. Walmart’s operating Income as of March 2018 was $20.437 Billion with a total
net income of US$9.862 Billion (Walmart, 2018). The company has total assets valued at
US$204.52 Billion and a total of US$77.869 Billion in total equity. Currently, the retail store has
over 11,277 retail stores and clubs globally. It operates in 27 different countries under 55
distinct names although it has maintained its Walmart name for the Canadian and United States
