can or cannot be a good leader is who
they are (Swan, 2016). The theory
compiles some characteristics that are
common in leaders. When screening
whether a person will make a good
leader or bad leader, the person’s
personality is compared with the
generated list of characteristics. If they
don’t possess those traits, then their

being very determined. Tenacious
people don’t give up when they face

A leader should also be someone who

they get work done. Confidence is also
another trait common in good leaders.
When talking to their subordinates,
they should do so with confidence so
that they can command respect. Selfconfidence is also crucial as this helps
in making decisions. A person who
second guesses him/herself all the time
makes a bad leader.
Honesty and Integrity are paramount
because this helps people develop trust
in their leaders. Charismatic people
also make good leaders because they
know how to motivate individuals into
accomplishing tasks. Creativity is
essential because leaders need to have
good ideas. They also need to know
how to differentiate good ideas from
bad ones. Emotional intelligence is the
ability to know one’s emotions and how
to deal with them. This trait is helpful
