A cool chain or a cold chain is basically a supply chain that depends on temperaturecontrolled processes. In as far as logistics and the equipment providing and maintaining the
needed temperatures are concerned, continuous refrigerated processes of distribution, storage,
and production are strictly followed in a cold chain supply. On a daily basis, hundreds of
thousands of product cases are transported across the United States to food-away-from-home
terminals, universities, hospitals, and restaurants as well as supermarkets among other places
selling food products. Efficiency and safety of these products are paramount during their
transportation and their storage, and this calls for a well-coordinated chain of trading partners
