San Mateo College Social Issues Youth Violence and Associated Factors Essay
Speech #2 Guidelines: Social Issues (Organization) SpeechThe primary purpose of informative speaking is to ensure an audience’s clear understanding of the ideas presented. In this speech, you will be selecting a nonprofit organization (The Red Cross, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and the Humane Society are a few examples) that you believe strongly in and inform your audience about it. Again, your goal with this presentation is to inform us about your organization, not persuade (we’ll get to that later!), so while I am asking you to pick something to care about, be sure to reign in the desire to convince your audience to take an action. The body of your presentation should cover the following:Background information (the history of the organization; how it was formed; mission statement, etc.)The purpose of the organizationRecent work the organization has done, or things done to advance the causeRecent news (on the local, national, or global level) surrounding your topic. To have a successful presentation, drawing upon the lessons from our previous presentations will help you. In addition, I’ll be looking for you to incorporate a variety of supporting materials, as well as outside research and evidence (Chapter 7 of the textbook; our course videos). I’ll also look for you to incorporate attention & interest factors through your language (Chapters 10 & 15). Additionally, where relevant, you may wish to incorporate a presentation aid (Chapter 13).RequirementsYou have 4-5 minutes for the speech. Your speech is to be no longer than 5 minutes in length.Adhere to principles of clear explanation (found in chapter 8 – organizers such as signposts, enumerations, etc.), emphasis cues, and definitions were appropriateInclude at least 3 valid source citations in the body of the speech and cite them verbally in the speech.Incorporate a range of supporting materials (clear examples, authority/layperson testimonial, statistics, definition)Utilize strong vocal and physical delivery (utilization of the space, gestures, eye contact / proper pacing, volume, enunciation, and pitch)

MGMT370 RU How To Make Better Choices in Life & Work Discussion
Last week, we saw some good examples of thinking and decision making that brought success to organizations. Our reading this week discusses the opposite kind of leader, revealing negative characteristics of a manager. High egos, hubris, criticism, intense arguing and criticism can be strong obstacles. Trying to make good decisions in this kind of environment, especially in groups, can be complicated. Think about the the repercussions of these factors in an organization, such as hurt feelings and people who will not work together again. Have you ever had a manager like this? Then you know if it motivated you to be a team player-or not.As you will read, the media can create an image of leaders, such as CEOs, as smarter than they really are. Writers do this for different motives, such as for a good story or to make the CEOs seem more valuable to their corporations. These executives can become egotistical and raise the cost of a company acquisition to more than its true value. What does our reading recommend to deal with these problems? What would you do? How would you, as a manager, deal with these problems with other people? What is a problem that you experienced with a manager? How should this leader have dealt with this and why?One of our verses from our reading this week is from Timothy II. Chapter 4 certainly discourages high egos and arguing. The 18th verse, says "And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever." Thus, you can learn this week that using our decision aids can demise the disagreements and resolve the problem with the best decision!Heath, Chip and Heath, Dan.
