Phillis Wheatley, in her poems, described what life was like during her time. She talked
about slavery, how she was sold from West Africa to America. Her description of life can be
generalized, and the slavery she experienced can be viewed as an aspect that affected black
women. She was, however, reluctant to write about slavery and instead wrote about religion and
Christianity. In one of her poems, she writes praises slavery and states that it brought her from
