Introduction
In current dynamic environment, leadership within organizations and teams are highly
valued. The success or failure of organization or a team depends on the leader. Due to their
importance, organization and teams are nowadays employing and appointing the best individuals
into leadership position in order to ensure that they help the organization achieve the stated
goals. An effective leader will help influence his or her subordinates or team members in the
workplace in a positive manner towards achieving the stated goals and objectives. There are
different approaches to leadership that have been developed by various scholars. These
leadership approaches include, behavioral approaches, situational approaches, transformational
leadership approach, and trait approaches.
Behavioral Leadership Approaches
Proponents of behavioral leadership approaches argue that there are unique behaviors
exhibited by individuals. These specific behaviors determine the kind of leader one can be, either
successful or a failure. Disciples of this approach argue that personal attributes are not important
but the way one behaves informs the kind of a leader one can be. There are four types of
