Project Overview Instructions
Over this term, you will work on developing a learning plan for an educational workshop on a topic of your choice. You will develop this project in stages and submit a final version in Module 6. The following are instructions for each stage of this project. Please read through this information carefully to ensure that you fully understand the assignment in its entirety as well as the components of the assignment. It’s a good idea to refer back to this document periodically to make sure you’re on track with your paper as well!
Background Material
Project Stage 1: Workshop Topic
In this stage, you will select the topic for your workshop. Include in your selection the reason(s) for your choice, the intended audience, and the context of the workshop. For example, consider these for some examples of what kinds of topics are suitable for a workshop:
-
Managing diabetes with diet and exercise
-
Delivering great customer service and resolving conflict
-
A company-wide orientation for new hires
-
Choosing the correct insurance plan to fit your needs
-
Managing hypertension
-
What is patient and workplace safety?
Your topic description should be about 150-200 words in length. This and all written work in this course should follow APA style conventions. The Purdue OWL is a good reference to review APA style guidelines (https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/) You will submit the completed document in the appropriate Assignment.
Project Stage 2: Instructional Objectives
After doing the readings from Chapter 10 in the Bastable, Gramet, Jacobs, and Sopczyk (2012) textbook, construct nine instructional objectives, three from each domain and at different taxonomic levels. These instructional objectives need to pertain to your workshop as closely as possible. As a reminder, one example of each domain (three objectives) will be used as a discussion item for Module 3's discussion posting..
Your objectives should be submitted as a Word document. This and all written work in this course should follow APA style conventions. The Purdue OWL is a good reference to review APA style guidelines (https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/). You will submit the completed document in the appropriate Assignment.
Project Stage 3: Lesson Plan
At this stage, you will construct a Lesson Plan for one day of your workshop. Your Lesson Plan should include the following components:
- Objectives
- Topics
- Timing
- Teaching strategies
- Media
Your Lesson Plan should be submitted as a Word document. There is a document in the module to use as a template to structure your Lesson Plan. You will submit the completed document in the appropriate Assignment. You can find a Microsoft Word (.doc) version for your reference in this module.
Project Stage 4: Agenda
At this stage you will develop the Agenda for your workshop. After reviewing the web article(s) on agendas and reviewing the sample agenda in this module, develop an agenda for your 2.5- to 3-day workshop. Include a title, times, topics, and speakers. There needs to be at least 6 hours of seat (instructional) time for the first two days and at least 3.5 hours of seat time for Day 3. Breaks and lunch are additional.
Please feel free to review the Agenda example in the Module to use as a guide. You will note that the minutes are listed in the right-hand column related to each presentation/section. You don't need to note the minutes on your own agenda. That is noted to give you an example of how the different sections are counted to add up to the required seat time.
Project Stage 5: Skills Checklist and Rating Scale
At this point you will develop a checklist and rating scale to evaluate a skill to be learned in the workshop. First construct a checklist related to a skill your learners should acquire from your workshop. Then, take the checklist you created and turn it into a rating scale assessing how well the participants completed the skill learned during the workshop or the quality of the participants’ execution of the skill. In addition to the web articles, refer to the Module 4 Lecturette.
Submit the checklist and scale in a Word document to the appropriate Assignment. These can be submitted as one document; however, make sure to put them on separate pages and label each section as "Checklist" and "Rating Scale."
Project Stage 6: Test Construction
Construct a comprehensive test for your workshop. The test should include the following parts:
-
Objective Test: Write a combination of at least six multiple choice and true/false questions based on an aspect of your workshop. Make sure you choose some from each area (i.e., three multiple choice and three true/false questions). Include an answer key with the test.
-
Short Answer Test: Construct a short answer test consisting of at least four questions based on an aspect of your workshop. Include an answer key with the test.
-
Essay Exam: Create an essay exam with at least one question related to an aspect of your workshop. Include an answer key or rubric to assist with grading the essay exam.
This assignment can be submitted as a single Word document but make sure to separate each section, such as Part 1, Objective Test; Part 2, Short Answer Test; Part 3, Essay Exam. Also, make sure you include directions giving the test taker clear instructions on how to complete the different tests.
Project Stage 7: Instructor Evaluation Survey and Satisfaction Survey
Part I: Create an instructor evaluation survey for your workshop. Include at least six appropriate questions measuring instructor performance. Make sure you include clear instructions on how to fill out the evaluation.
Part II: Design a satisfaction survey for your workshop measuring customer satisfaction. Include at least six appropriate questions for the survey and clear instructions on how to fill it out.
This assignment can be submitted as a single Word document but please put the surveys on separate pages and clearly label the pages with the title of each survey.
Project Stage 8: Final Project
Submit a comprehensive learning plan for the workshop. The project must include all the areas listed below:
- Include a cover letter with a description of the program, overview of the program, intended audience, objectives, author's background, and how assessments and evaluations will be incorporated in your program.
- Provide a lesson plan from one day of the workshop along with the agenda for the entire 2.5- to 3-days of the workshop.
- Include tests/assessments: Rating scale, checklist, objective test, short answer test, and essay. Make sure you include instructions, an answer key and/or rubric for the tests as appropriate.
- Include PowerPoint slides from one activity in the workshop. Include at least six well-developed slides. Although this isn’t a full presentation, some guidelines for developing PowerPoint presentations are included in this module for your reference.
- Evaluation instruments: Instructor evaluation and customer service survey.
It is best to submit the Final Project as one document, with each section in the order listed above. You can submit the Final Project either as a Word document or PDF. Use the Final Project Checklist to review all the components of your project before submitting it.
