Course: PHYS202Section: PHY 202Name: Instructor Name: Title: The Pendulum Lab Report (determine the effect of friction, angle, length and mass of the bob, gravity on the period of the pendulum)Abstract: This experiment was designed to find out the various fectors that affect the period of a pendulum which is a swinging weight attached to a string. By letting go of the weight from a particular angle, the pendulum moved back and forth. The three factors used in the pendulum experiment are: the friction, gravity, the angle at which pendulum is released, the length of the string, the mass of the bob. I concluded that as the length of the bob increase, the period increase; as the gravity decrease, the period increase. Other factors has no obvious effect on the pendulum. Introduction: This lab is related to the concept of the pendulum. A pendulum is a weight suspended from a fixed point, it is also called a "bob". When take the weight to a certain height with a certain angle and let it go, the pendulum can swing from side to side in a regular periodic motion. With no external force like friction act on the pendulum, it will move back and forth forever without stopping. A pendulum can never start swinging just by itself, a initial force like pulling needs to be done, the bob also needs to be pulled into a certain angle. The following is a model of the pendulum motion: (physicslab.org)Next is the discussion of the theory
