These criminals will go to any lengths in order to establish their criminal enterprises and will use violent means to ensure their goals are accomplished. Organized crime groups prey on the weak and take advantage of loopholes in the law in order to get away with their crimes. These groups mask their illegal activities through the use of legitimate businesses and the group is structured like a traditional business but gain their income through crimes. The organized crime group engages in traditional street crimes but also uses the development of new technology to commit cyber and white collar crimes. When organized crime groups first emerged around prohibition these groups controlled a certain area and used force and coercion to ensure everyone in the area complied. The organized crime group commits street crime such as drug smuggling and selling, illegal gambling, prostitution, and racketeering. In the new technological age the organized crime group's crimes have become more global. Organized crime groups take advantage of new technologies to commit cyber crimes, such as fraud, and global crimes, such as firearms and drug and human smuggling.
