Policy Analysis III Compare and ContrastNameClassDateProfessorPolicy Analysis III Compare and Contrast The Three Strikes Laws and the USA Patriot Act are two contemporary criminal justice policies that directly affect law enforcement as well as other aspects of the criminal justice system. The Three Strikes policy is a mandatory sentencing policy first established in Washington in 1992 that requires criminal offenders that commit three felonies to be sentenced to twenty five years to life while the USA Patriot Act provided was enacted to improve the investigatory power of law enforcement in order to be better equipped to deal with the possible terroristic threat. When crime challenges emerge in society the two crime approaches that are employed in the American criminal justice system are the crime control and due process models. The crime control model is the need to enforce the law and maintain social while the due process model is designed to ensure citizen in society do not suffer injustices (Perron, 2001). The crime control model is focused on stopping crime through the use of the investigation, arrest, prosecution, and conviction of the criminal offender in order to ensure the safety of members of the public. The focus of the due process model is to ensure that when justice occurs there is no violation of the rights afforded to the criminal offender.
