Acids Or Bases In Water Solution:In chemistry the two main compounds are Acids and Bases. The term Acid is a latin word derived from acidium which means sour. At present acids are of two types namely hydracids and oxyacids. Hydracids have one hydrogen atom and a non metal. E.g.HCL. Oxyacids as the name indicates consists of oxygen, hydrogen and a non metal. For e.g. HNO3 . Both the acids combine together to form mineral acids, since they are obtained from mineral resources. There is the presence of acids and bases in our daily intake of food, since our food contains sour and bitter food. Let us consider the example of people having acidity. The acid burns inside the stomach. For this they take milk of magnesia to subside. This indicates that the effect of acids and bases are to nullify each other. Acids and bases are differentiated by their response to litmus test that is change in the colour of litmus paper. In this chapter we will study about how the reaction takes place between acids and bases. There are indicators to detect the solution whether it is acidic or basic solution. But first let us find the properties of acids and bases.Properties of acids:Acids are sour to taste.Acids turn blue litmus red. They react with some metals and evolve gaseous hydrogen.Acids react with bases to form salt and water. They turn methyl orange to red.The strength of an acid depends on the capacity to contribute a proton.A strong acid separates totally in an aqueous solution by l
