Tutor description

A supplier provides parts to a manufacturing company that demands JIT deliveries. At the present time it takes 6 hours to make a round-trip between the supplier's warehouse and the customer, including loading, travel and unloading time. The lot size is 12 pallet loads on a truck, and the manufacturer uses 2 pallets per hour. 1. How many trucks are needed to ship the pallets to the manufacturer? 2. What is likely to happen if the trucks break down? 3. How can the supplier ensure that the customer does not run out of parts even in the face of delivery problems or other uncertainties? 4. What will happen if the manufacturer runs into trouble and shuts down for a period of 6 hours? 5. If unexpected overtime is required, how do you effectively communicate the need to your workforce?

Business Operations Management IP3NameClassDateProfessorBusiness Operations Management IP3 When a supplier provides parts to a manufacturing company that demands JIT deliveries it is necessary for the business to be properly prepared to get the parts to the manufacturing company without any hitches. The current travel time is six hours to make a round-trip between the supplier's warehouse and the customer, including loading, travel and unloading time. The lot size is 12 pallet loads per truck with the manufacturer using two pallets per hour. In order to meet the needs of the manufacturing company the company will need to send four trucks in order to meet the needs of the manufacture for one day. The manufacturing company goes through two pallets every hour and if the manufacture runs twenty four hours a day it would take a minimum of four trucks to deliver enough pallets. If one of the trucks were to break down the production of the manufacturing company would be interrupted as well as the production or the delivery abilities of the supplier. In order to ensure that no interruptions the supplier needs to be readily prepared for any mishaps that may occur. This will require the supplier taking proactive measures to be prepared in the event of any crisis that arises. One solution for the supplier is to have the trucks checked out by mechanics before the drivers leave to supply the manufacturing company with the necessary supplies. I
