The role of the Hunger Games was to punish all the districts after district 13 rebelled against the Capitol in order to prevent rebellion in the future. When Katniss, a girl from district 12, volunteers for her sister Prim, she begins to plan how she is going to survive to become the victor.

Together with Peeta, she fights for survival in the Hunger Games and when they are over. Throughout the trilogy, Katniss has to choose between Gale, who is very masculine, or Peeta, who has feminine qualities that he uses to his advantage. This trilogy examines how gender roles influence how far Katniss, Peeta, and Gale will go to protect each other.Katniss Everdeen is a young girl who, when her father died in a mining accident, had to risk her life and hunt, so that her family can survive. On the day that the names are picked for the Hunger Games, Katniss goes out to hunt with her friend Gale who is older and also lost his father to the mine. When Katniss is with Gale in the woods, she feels more comfortable and doesnt have to worry about saying something she will regret.
