Students learn how to organize their own time as well as the necessity to use the internet to engage in the classroom process helps the student to obtain good computer operating skills. The virtual learning experience provided by AIU provides students with an increased interactive environment and prepares student for a technological work environment. Learning Theories Learning is a process that combines emotional, cognitive, and environmental factors and experiences in order to acquire, enhance, and make changes to an individual's skills, knowledge, values, and views (Mergel, 1998). AIU demonstrates successful use of learning and instructional theories in a real world teaching/learning environment through their instructional design. The instructional design employs behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism. Behaviorism is used in the instructional design of AIU through developing the objectives in which the student will learn by. Computer assisted learning is one aspect where behaviorism was applied to the AIU instructional design.
