These acids commonly result from sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides reacting with moisture and other substances in the atmosphere (Chandler, 2011). Acid rain is the result of gases in the atmosphere that react forming acidic compounds. The wet deposition of acid rain occurs when precipitation turns to rain or and the acid falls to the ground. Then acid will then flow through the ground corroding the soil and contaminating water ways. These chemicals are the result of manmade sources, such a power plants being forced into the air and mixing with the natural precipitation process. When acid is deposited into the rivers and soil plant life and animals that consume the acid water are also affected by the acidic compound. Animals in the river and lakes, such as fish and other water animals are impacted as well as land animals that rely on the contaminated water for drinking.
