DDT Pesticide Use DDT Pesticide is a popular pesticide used across the globe and previously used in the United States until it was banned. DDT was banned due to its harmful effects to the environment in 1972 but the harmful effects of the pesticide continue to effect the environment. A pesticide is a chemical used to kill pests. Some of these chemical are not harmful to the environment and humans but many are not. DDT Pesticide is considered a harmful pesticide by the environmental Protection Agency (EPA). DDT effectively kills the pest but exposes humans and the environment to toxins and overtime becomes pest resistant. Description and Source of Pollutant DDT (dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane) was first created in a lab in the 1800's but became a modern synthetic insecticide in the 1940's (EPA, 2014).
