This is a K-8 school with an enrollment of 174 students. The class sizes are small, ranging from 11 to 21 students per class, and there is only one class per grade. The observation was completed in the second grade classroom during a math lesson. The teacher observed was Ms. Felicia Carter. Ms. Carter typically teaches fifth and sixth grade math but was filling in for the second grade teacher on the day of the observation.The lesson being taught on the day of the observation was two-digit addition. The students were arranged in groups of two and each group had two sets of linking cubes (10 in each set). Linking cubes are small square blocks that connect to each other and can be used connected together or separated into individual pieces. Ms. Carter distributed a worksheet to each student.
