Week 1, DQ4: Indulge Your Inner Gadget Geek :-).How has technology changed the communication process? Has technology changed the way people communicatein business? Provide at least two examples, whether of gadgets, software, other technologies, or a combination of technologies.RESPONSE 1In my personal experience, spanning 19.5 years in the Navy, I have seen lots of technological advancements in the form of communication. My first cruise in 1996 introduced me to e-mail, and I tell you what, after 4 months of using what we call "snail mail", e-mail was a God-send. As we have moved along since then, and at the same time I have progressed higher in rank, I have noticed how especially towards the top of the chain of command, that e-mail has become the norm, not the exception. E-mail in and of itself is great, provided that everyone has a computer, is on it, and responds appropriately. In my field, we have a saying "leadership by e-mail", and it is not something that is looked upon with great pride. I still find it more effective to gather everyone around to a work space and put the information out verbally, where questions can be asked, and I know there is not confusion. I will say with cell phones, texting has become very reliable, but still has its faults like e-mail. As long as your phone is charge, you have a signal, and it is on your person, texting is fantastic. The benefit is being able to get the word out to multiple people at the same time, vice call
