I began the class by gathering the students in a circle and holding up enlarged pictures of coins. Most students already knew what each coin was and how much it was worth; however, there were still a few students who needed to learn. I then gave each child a plastic bag with four coins in it: one penny, one nickel, one dime, and one quarter. After we had separated our coins I taught them the "Money Song". This is a rhyming song that teaches students how much money each coin is worth. The students enjoyed this song and continued to sing it throughout the lesson.
