Fires can happen by accident but they can also be purposively set. Understanding the motive will lead the fire investigator to the person responsible for setting the fire if the fire was set on purpose. One of the most popular motives for setting fire is financial. People who own buildings will ensure the building is properly insured and then set it on fire in order to obtain the insurance money. Arson is a crime but so is fraud. The person that sets fire to a building or other asset on purpose has committed arson but if they receive insurance money they have also committed a fraud. In order to prove the fire was committed for financial reasons the fire investigator would need to locate the title on the property to determine who own the property as well as determine if the person who owned the property has insurance on the property.
