CRJS406-DB1NameClassDateProfessorCrime Scene Three crime scene responsibilities that are important at a crime scene is caring for the injured, scene walk-through for evidence and chain of custody, and, documentation. The first thing that must happen when police are called to a crime scene is anyone that is injured must be cared for. Police must preserve the crime scene to ensure evidence is not lost but their first priority has to be to the injured. Once the injured have been removed the crimes scene will be secured by police to ensure evidence does not become lost or damaged. This leads to the second most important responsibility at a crime scene. Scene walk-through for evidence and chain of custody are pivotal parts of any crime scene investigation. First the scene walk through is essential so evidence can be located and marked to later be collected. Through the walk through the investigator can not only locate evidence but begin to develop an idea of what has occurred at the crime scene. Evidence must be secured to ensure the chain of command. Lastly documentation is essential to ensure the validity and reliability of the evidence in the court
