Evidence point police in the right direction when looking for criminal suspects and provides evidence pointing to the guilt of a criminal suspect. Without evidence there is no way to prove a criminal committed a crime and no way to convince a jury or judge of their guilt. Evidence comes in many different forms but is either physical or circumstantial. Physical evidence is evidence collected at the crime scene, such as DNA, fibers, and a weapon while circumstantial evidence is testimony on class evidence that could be tied to the victim. Evidence plays a crucial role in every criminal investigation. The more evidence that can be collected the better chance the state will be able to prove the guilt of a criminal defendant. Evidence is also crucial to helping the police develop a picture of what occurred at the crime scene in order to develop more evidence. For example fingerprints help police to identify who was at the crime scene.
