In America the prison population is overwhelming with over two million prisoners being housed at any given time. Housing these offenders can be an immense expense for the state as well as the taxpayer. One pro of allowing the inmate to work for a private industry is the salary received by the inmate could be applied to the expense of housing them. Another pro is it would lower the labor cost to the private enterprises as well as provide the inmate with an opportunity to learn a new skill. There are also other positive aspects to private enterprise such as the inmate is kept busy while in prison which would limit the time they had to get into trouble and they would be able to use the new job skill when being released from prison. Allowing prison inmates to work for private industries while being held in a correctional facility could also have some cons. One con is the salary being paid to the inmate is not sufficient to cover their housing expenses and the privat
