Several scholars have come up with various theories justifying Mussolini's fast rise to power. Even though several factors have been linked to his ascendance to power, they are widely disputed. Some scholars subscribe to the view that his approach to the emerging problems in Italy at that time made people perceive him as an ideal leader. Of particular concern were problems that followed the end of World War I (WWI). These problems included economic crisis, social unrest and mass demobilization. The previous Liberal governments had failed since the unification of Italy in 1870. Therefore, the WWI impact changed Italian's perception on liberal governments1. Consequently, Italy fast became a totalitarian state. Mussolini's rise to power was linked to the rise of Italian fascism. Fascism spread across Italy within a very short period of time, attracting the attention of many people since it was a new political ideology and movement2. Given that he was a journalist before he fully ventured into politics, Mussolini used propaganda in making people understand his perception on governance and politics.
