It is an African world view enshrined in the Nguni proverb, Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu1, which literally means "a person is a person through other persons". The concept of Ubuntu articulates a basic respect and compassion for others. Ubuntu is an African philosophy of life that promotes a sense of togetherness or solidarity, humaneness, personhood, and morality amongst members of the society. Others have branded it as a worldview of African societies meant to regulate the moral values of a social setup2.Khoza in his book The Need for an Afrocentric Approach to Management defines Ubuntu as an African view of life and worldview; it is the collective consciousness of African people. Khoza observes that Africans have their own religion, their own ethical views, and their own political ideologies - Black Counsciousness and Negritude. The distinctive counciousness, according to him, is manifested in African behavior patterns, expressions, and spiritual self-fulfilment where values such as the universal African brotherhood are emphasized3.
