According to the learning theory the processes involved in learning involve the environmental influences, cognitive processes, and emotional responses of the student while the instructional design theory is design oriented (Smith, 1999). The learning theory is descriptive while the instructional design theory is predictive and guiding the learning process. The learning theory asks questions about the learning processes. It looks at the factors that are involved in learning and finds learning is a process that involves not only observed behaviors but emotional and cognitive processes (Whitmore, 2008).
